What Stirs Your Soul

An author by the name of Nicole Lyons once said, “Whatever it is that stirs your soul, listen to that. Everything else is just noise.” This is one of my all time favorite quotes and one of the the thoughts that propel me forward with passion in life coaching. If I surveyed 100 random people on the street, asking them if they are aware of what “stirs their soul” I would venture to say that a large majority of people would not know how to clearly answer that question. To take this one step further, if I then asked those same people how many of them were actively participating in a life that cultivates the stirring of their soul, I would guess there would be even less people who answered yes to this question. The fact that most people do not know what stirs their soul literally grieves me. We only get one chance at this life, and so many times we spend our time filled with activities we don’t enjoy, just to go to sleep and do it all again the next day. Have you ever asked if there is more to life than just work, responsibility and growing old? Have you ever spent a significant amount of time assessing your own desires, hopes, dreams and how to reach them? Have you ever asked yourself, “What was I created to do?”

Life does not stop or slow down for us to catch up and figure out what we want to do with it. Life speeds by quickly, swiftly, quietly like a thief in the night. An intentional life (a life lived on purpose) does not design itself. It is imperative that we tell the puzzle pieces where to go in order to create a beautiful picture. If you were putting together a puzzle, you would not put all of the pieces in a pile and expect it to put itself together, would you? Of course not. You understand that making a puzzle look the way you want it to look takes intention. It takes work. It takes creativity. All of those things go into creating a purposeful and intentional life as well.

Take a few moments and ask yourself, “what stirs my soul?” Ask yourself, “Am I living an intentional and fulfilling life?” If you don’t know the answers to these questions, or you are not putting the puzzle together in the way you want it to be created, let’s take some time and identify barriers to your goals. The life you want IS around the corner!
